We started as a small shop in Prineville, Oregon, back in 1952 and even though we have expanded to more than 400 stores, we've kept our small-town values. No matter how much we've grown, our customers' happiness and satisfaction has always been our top priority.

Who was Les Schwab? He was much more than just the name on a tire store. At his core, Les Schwab was a man who believed in hard work and loyalty to his family, his employees and the community.

Les Schwab was born in 1917 in Bend, Oregon. He lived in logging camps and went to school in an old railroad boxcar. His parents died while he was still a teenager. This was a man who built his life from very humble beginnings.

After high school, Les married Dorothy Harlan, who was his loving wife for the next 70 years. He found work as a circulation manager for a newspaper in Bend, and life moved along until a decision in 1952 that changed his life forever.

That year, Les bought a small tire store in Prineville, Oregon. In the decades that followed, Les built his business from that one store to over 430 stores across the western United States, making Les Schwab Tire Centers one of the largest independent tire businesses in the country.

Les believed in going above and beyond for his customers. He knew treating customers fairly was the right thing to do, and he committed his entire company to it from the start.

Les also treated his employees as partners. He provided them opportunity to grow and succeed, both financially and personally. That is the reason why many employees have been with the company for 20, 30, or even 40 years.

Although Les passed away in 2007, his vision for the company remains stronger than ever. For the 7,000+ employees of Les Schwab Tire Centers, this is now their story.
